The House in SAKAI-5 is built on a diamond-shaped irregular plot of land, a typical urban type housing with many constraints due to its narrow area. However, Ninomiya and Morodome saw this as an opportunity rather than a limitation. They wanted to create a design that not only made living easy but also added a unique aesthetic to the cityscape.
The design team, which also included Yuki Nakamura and Ryouji Adachi, utilized the irregular site geometry to their advantage. They stacked three layers of wooden structures, efficiently using the area and creating a visually appealing exterior that gives an accent to the cityscape. The structure is a testament to their innovative approach to urban design.
The house covers a total floor area of 96.94sqm, with a building area of 42.59sqm on a site area of 61.50sqm. Despite its compact size, the house is a fully functional private residence, demonstrating how thoughtful design can maximize space and functionality.
The House in SAKAI-5 is not just a design marvel; it is also a winner of the prestigious Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2018. The award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
In conclusion, the House in SAKAI-5 is a shining example of how innovative design can transform a challenging site into a functional and aesthetically pleasing living space. It stands as a testament to the power of design in shaping our urban landscapes and improving our quality of life. The house is a beacon of modern urban living, demonstrating how design can transform a cityscape and create an attractive living environment.
